The kibibit is a multiple of the bit, a unit of digital information storage, prefixed by the standards-based multiplier kibi (symbol Ki), a binary prefix meaning 210.[1][2] The unit symbol of the kibibit is Kibit or Kib.
- 1 kibibit = 210 bits = 1024 bits[3]
The kibibit has existed since 1998 and is closely related to the kilobit, which is either a synonym for kibibit[citation needed], or stands for 103 bits = 1000 bits, according to the International System of Units (SI).
The binary prefixes are not part of the International System of Units (SI).
