A Dramatic Turn of Events adalah album studio kesebelas oleh band progressive metal/rock Dream Theater, dirilis di seluruh dunia pada tanggal 12 September 2011 dan di Amerika Serikat pada 13 September 2011 melalui Roadrunner Records. Ini adalah rekaman pertama bagi drummer Mike Mangini menyusul kepergian anggota pendiri Mike Portnoy pada September 2010. Album ini ditulis, direkam, di"mixing", antara Januari sampai Juni 2011 di "Cove City Sound Studios" di Long Island, New York. John Petrucci sebagai produser dari album ini dan Andy Wallace yang menggarap proses "mixing" nya. Single "On the Backs of Angels", dirilis untuk promosi album.

Dalam album A Dramatic Turn of Events, Dream Theater mengalami perubahan musik, memproklamirkan diri, mengevaluasi kembali dan restrukturisasi ulang gaya bermusik. Gaya album lebih condong ke rock progresif dan hard rock, lebih lain dari beberapa album Dream Theater sebelumnya, dan disebut-sebut lebih mirip pada album Images and Words dan Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. Judul album berasal dari tema lirik yang berulang atas perubahan dramatis dalam sejarah yang telah mempengaruhi kehidupan masyarakat, termasuk pemberontakan kontemporer seperti perang sipil Libya.
