Bangsa Azerbaijan[23][24][25][26] adalah grup etnis yang tinggal di Iran barat laut dan Republik Azerbaijan. Umumnya disebut sebagai Azeri/Āzarī (آذری - Azəri), mereka tinggal dari wilayah Kaukasus hingga Iran. Mayoritas Bangsa Azerbaijan menganut agama Muslim Syi'ah.[27]
Meskipun hidup terpisah akibat Traktat Gulistan (1813) dan Turkmenchay (1828), dimana Iran kehilangan wilayah utaranya ke Rusia, bangsa Azerbaijan merupakan grup etnis yang satu.[28] Namun, muncul perbedaan di antara bangsa Azerbaijan di utara dan selatan akibat perbedaan evolusi sosial. Bahasa Azerbaijan masih dapat menyatukan bangsa Azeri di utara dan selatan.
