Masalah kejahatan
Dalam filsafat agama dan teologi, masalah kejahatan adalah pertanyaan bagaimana kita menjelaskan kejahatan di dunia (tindakan, peristiwa, atau keadaan yang membawa penderitaan, kehilangan, kemiskinan, dan ketidakadilan) jika Tuhan atau dewa-dewi bersifat maha tahu, maha kuasa, dan maha berbelas kasihan [1][2] Banyak filsuf mengklaim bahwa keberadaan Tuhan tidaklah cocok dengan dunia yang penuh dengan kejahatan.[3]
David Hume dalam bukunya Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion (1779) mengutip argumen Epikouros:[4] "Apakah [Tuhan] berniat mencegah kejahatan, namun tidak dapat? maka apakah ia impoten. Apakah ia dapat, namun tidak berniat? Maka apakah ia berhati dengki. Apakah ia dapat dan berniat? maka darimanakah kejahatan?"
