Serif is an independent developer and publisher of desktop publishing and graphic design software for the PC. Established in 1987, Serif is a privately owned British company. It provides PC software and associated products direct to customers all over the world through its website and contact centre in the UK. It has over 200 employees at its head office in West Bridgford, near Nottingham, United Kingdom.[2]
History
Serif was founded by a small team of software engineers who wanted to create a low-cost Desktop Publishing (DTP) package for everyday PC users[3] and in 1990 Serif released PagePlus 1.0. Today PagePlus is Serif’s flagship software suite and has won several awards over the years.[4]
While most of their customers are regular PC users, their software is also used by businesses[5] and schools.[6]
Serif offers free, feature-restricted versions of its latest titles (the Starter Edition range)[7] and maintains a separate website allowing customers to download free copies of older versions of their applications.[8]
Serif also sells selected software and hardware items from other manufacturers via their website.
