Yahoo! Finance is a site from Yahoo! that provides financial news and information. It has been the top financial news and research website in the United States since January, 2008, with more than 37.5 million monthly unique visitors (comScore, May 2012)[2]

Yahoo! Finance offers news and information including original video programming, stock quotes, stock exchange rates, corporate press releases and financial reports, and popular message boards for discussing a company's prospects and stock valuation. It also offers some hosted tools for personal finance management. Yahoo! Finance Worldwide offers similar portals localized to assorted large countries in South America, Europe, and Asia.

Development history

In the introduction to a 2009 interview with Forbes.com, former general manager Nathan Richardson was said to have built "annual revenue from $10 million to $110 million and expanded the site's content partners from 10 to 200. In 2005 Institutional Investor ranked [Richardson] the most influential person in online finance." In the interview, Richardson described the process of building the financial-information modules and creating a "moat" around the content (to keep visitors sticking to the site). Yahoo! Finance is home to some of the top original video programs on the web, including:

"The Daily Ticker" – Yahoo! Finance Editor in Chief Aaron Task offers insights on the most important business stories of the day, including: politics, the economy, investing, Wall Street, corporate leadership and company earnings. Guests have included President Bill Clinton; Vice President Joe Biden; Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Laureate; Robert Reich, former Clinton Labor Secretary; Shelia Bair, former head of the FDIC; Eliot Spitzer, former NY Governor and Attorney General and Donald Trump.

"Financially Fit" – Yahoo! Finance personal finance expert Farnoosh Torabi offers advice on topics including budgeting, saving, and spending smart.

"Breakout" – Jeff Macke and Matt Nesto host this daily interactive investing show.Guests have included the likes of Steve Rattner, NASCAR CEO Bill France, J.C. Penney CEO Ron Johnson, and Lawrence Summers, former Treasury Secretary.

Yahoo! Finance is home to a number of financial experts, including:

Aaron Task: As the Yahoo! Finance Editor-in-Chief, Task oversees all original content for the site and the Yahoo! Finance newsroom. He is also the host of the original program "The Daily Ticker". Prior to joining Yahoo! in 2008, he was editor-at-large at TheStreet.com, where he spent 10 years in a variety of roles, including San Francisco bureau chief. Task is the co-author of Bailout Nation and a sought-after commentator on financial markets, economics, and related public policy.

Farnoosh Torabi: As the host of "Financially Fit" on Yahoo! Finance, Torabi specializes in what the New York Times calls "perfectly practical"[4] financial advice and money saving tips for consumers. She is the author of the book Psych Yourself Rich: Get The Mindset & Discipline You Need to Build Your Financial Life as well as a highly sought-after speaker and frequent financial contributor to The Today Show. Her advice has also been featured in Real Simple, Glamour, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.

Matt Nesto: Nesto is co-host of the original program "Breakout." Prior to joining Yahoo! Finance, Nesto was a correspondent and stocks editor for CNBC and spent nine years at[5] Bloomberg Television, where he covered financial markets from five different countries. Before joining Bloomberg, he spent six years as a financial consultant and investment adviser for Lehman Brothers, Prudential Securities and Merrill Lynch.

Jeff Macke: Macke is co-host of the original program "Breakout" on Yahoo! Finance. Macke was previously founder and president of Macke Asset Management (MAM), where he actively managed assets until 2005. Prior to founding MAM, he was a partner and co-founder of Macke Partners, an investment partnership. He also has been an analyst with Palo-Alto Investors and a consultant with Senn-Delaney Retail Consultants, where he developed the associate training program for Sears.
